We wanted to create a design that would preserve the Evoy identity while giving the product a form that conveys power, muscle, and speed. The Storm 300+ is an extremely powerful motor. It was important for us that the design not only be unique but also reflect that power – featuring an aggressive, forward-driven expression with segmented covers that emphasize motion in the direction of travel.

Form follows function: We designed the segmentation of the covers not only to give the product a unique look, but also to ensure easy access to service points without having to remove the larger covers behind the motor.

The graphic elements, including the Evoy logo, the stripe, and the 300+ decal emphasize both speed and power in a contemporary way. The discreet color palette was chosen to avoid drawing attention away from the product’s form and the boat’s overall design.

The collaboration with Evoy began in mid-October 2022. The project goal, and Evoy’s requirement, was to be ready to present the product as a physical prototype with a functioning motor at the Düsseldorf Boat Show on January 20, roughly three months after project kickoff.

The work started by 3D scanning the geometry of the motor housing, after which we used our CAD tools to model the assembly of the internal components of the electric motor. This allowed us to begin the design project for the external covers.

The design process started with sketches and 3D concept design. Through frequent meetings and close collaboration with Evoy’s technical team, we were able to quickly move into construction work and the detailing of individual parts. Our original intention was to produce the covers in fiberglass, but it soon became clear that 3D printing with SLS would be the only viable solution within the limited timeframe. The large covers were therefore 3D printed, assembled, and mounted.

The subsequent work of priming and painting could then begin, ensuring a high-quality surface finish. The graphic design was developed, and finally, we were able to decorate this impressive product with foil to bring out the visual expression we had envisioned.
