Rethinking Lottery Sales in the Age of Self-Service

To help shape the future of lottery gaming, we worked as a subcontractor for Make Studio to deliver a new, user-friendly solution for Norsk Tipping. Lotteries are a popular pastime, generating around 40 billion NOK in annual sales in Norway. While tickets have long been purchased over the counter, the shift toward self-service presents new challenges. With changing store formats and more independent customers, research was essential to understand users’ habits and their interaction with both traditional and modern checkout solutions.

During the concept development phase, the cylinder was used as a basic form. Various concepts and features were tested to meet the technical requirements of a finished solution. The final solution combines two directions where the cylinder shape is well represented, with a small spout that clearly defines the interaction point for users. The combination of form and material ensures good visibility of the type of lottery tickets the dispenser contains, making it easy for customers to choose the right ticket.

Designing from A to Z

This project has included insight work, design and development, testing and iteration, as well as Design for Manufacturing (DFM). Through knowledge sharing and informative workshops, we have, together with Make Studio, created a focused and creative process – resulting in a final product that is now being implemented in stores across Norway.
