As urban areas expand, former industrial waterfronts are transforming into vibrant neighborhoods. Yet, public transport struggles to adapt due to rising congestion and limited space. Most global cities are built along rivers and coastlines, and historically, waterways have served as vital transport corridors. Despite this, conventional ferries remain noisy, polluting, and largely outdated in terms of standardization.

Hyke Shuttle 0001 is designed to revolutionize waterborne urban transport. Our mission is clear: shift more movement back onto waterways – efficiently, quietly, and emission-free. By doing so, we ease pressure on roads while making waterfronts more accessible and sustainable for everyone.

Hyke Shuttle 0001 is powered by an all-electric drivetrain, featuring a highly efficient hull and thermal system. The vessel charges automatically and wirelessly while docked, eliminating manual handling and maximizing uptime without relying on oversized batteries. Its intelligent docking system enables auto-centering and auto-mooring, creating a safe and stable interface even in rough conditions. The modular dock is cost-efficient, compatible with standard jetties, and easy to deploy or relocate.

To realize Hyke’s core concepts, we re-evaluated traditional boatbuilding from the ground up. This led to a production-friendly foundation tailored for serial manufacturing. Developing Hyke Shuttle 0001 posed unique challenges for our team at Eker Design, requiring cross-disciplinary coordination and agile processes. Our ability to offer design support during and after production allowed for a flexible and efficient production line, pushing our internal capabilities to new heights.

Safety has been paramount throughout. In close collaboration with the Norwegian Maritime Authority, DSB, and DNV, all technical and battery-related certifications were achieved. Every system was meticulously reviewed to ensure passengers experience a safe and worry-free journey.

Most people have experienced ferries as loud, clunky, and inconvenient. Hyke was built to challenge that perception. Our goal was to create a seamless experience. One where traveling from point A to B doesn’t feel like taking a ferry. From intuitive boarding and a silent ride to smooth disembarkation, every detail is designed to integrate effortlessly into the urban transport ecosystem.
